A personalized baptism candle can be a wonderful symbol used during the christening ceremony. It can be compared to a unity candle used during a wedding ceremony. But instead of symbolizing the joining of the bride and groom's two lives into one, this candle represents the beginning of a child's new spiritual life as part of God's family.
Being personalized with the baptism date and the baby's name will make it a treasured keepsake for years to come. Many times the candle design will also include a cross or seashell accompanied by a drop of water to further symbolize this religious sacrament. If space allows, consider having the name of the church along with a special Bible verse also engraved on the candle. Chances are the candle won’t be lit after this momentous occasion so all these details will be displayed forever.
Here are some commonly used Bible verses or you can choose a verse or phrase of your own:
Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.
Check with your church in advance to see if they may be providing a Personalized Baptism Candle or if you can provide your own and if the candle can be lit during the ceremony. Even if it can’t be actually burning, be sure to have it displayed. You may also want to have this candle lit during the celebration following the christening but make sure it doesn’t burn down too far as to distort any of the engraved detailing preventing it from becoming a wonderful souvenir. You could simply use it as a decoration which could make the burning of it during the actual baptism even more special.
Another idea for using candles as part of your baptism or christening celebration would be to use votives as favors for guests to take home or as decorations to enhance your table settings.
Let the light of God's love shine on your baby's special day with a unique christening candle.
